I have set out a six point plan for Workington in line with our party manifesto which you can download, alongside the costings document, below.
The NHS is getting record investment. I will campaign to get a share of extra funds spent on improving our local Community Hospitals in Cockermouth, Maryport and Workington. That means better access to emergency care for every community.
Our young people deserve the best start in life. We are making progress with investment into Workington Academy. I will work with colleges to provide specialist qualifications in local industries, like nuclear technology, construction and manufacturing so young people can get skilled up locally.
We’re recruiting 20,000 new police officers to keep our streets safe. I will work with the community to put them on the beat in the right areas and give them the powers and extra resources they need to catch criminals.
We need more quality local jobs. That’s why I’m working with the government to get investment into Sellafield. To protect vital jobs and create opportunities for skilled workers, I will campaign for decommissioning work to be prioritised for local employers.
We need to cut congestion. I am campaigning to dual the A66 and tackle the Ramsey Brow bottleneck, opening up access to Workington Port. I’ll push for better flood defences on the B5300 coast road and upgrade the A595.
Our town centres have fallen on hard times. That’s why I’ve got a plan to boost towns like Aspatria, Cockermouth, Maryport & Silloth. We can improve shop frontages, bring empty units into use and rejuvenate the ports and harbours. And Workington, where I will push the Lower Derwent Valley regeneration plan, including a new, sustainable multi-use stadium.
Boris Johnson's Guarantee
If there is a majority of Conservative MPs on December 13th, I guarantee I will get our new deal through Parliament. We will get Brexit done in January and unleash the potential of our whole country.
- Extra funding for the NHS, with 50,000 more nurses and 50 million more GP surgery appointments a year
- 20,000 more police and tougher sentencing for criminals
- An Australian-style points-based system to control immigration
- Millions more invested every week in science, schools, apprenticeships and infrastructure while controlling debt.
- Reaching Net Zero by 2050 with investment in clean energy solutions and green infrastructure to reduce carbon emissions and pollution.
- We will not raise the rate of income tax, VAT or National Insurance.
If Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour and Nicola Sturgeon’s SNP team up and take control on December 13th, we will have two referendums on Brexit and Scotland in 2020.
Please support a majority Conservative Government so our country can move on instead of going backwards.
Rt Hon Boris Johnson
