My letter to the Times and Star and the Whitehaven News:
Dear Sir,
Last week we were treated to a front page telling us how Campbell-Savours had raised an Early Day Motion in Parliament about the Cockermouth Court House, a motion that has no real world effect outside some House of Commons procedures.
The facts are simple - Cumberland Council have all the powers they require to take action on the Court House, and to recover the costs. There are some very specific circumstances in this case which make that a near-certainty. The council have done it elsewhere in Cumberland, with little chance of recouping costs - so why not in Cockermouth? And why are our MPs so keen to help the council avoid doing their job?
Interestingly, Campbell-Savours Senior also used EDMs back in his day to attack the then Chief Executive of Allerdale, in order deflect from Allerdale Labour Councillor’s failings when they were in charge. History doesn’t repeat, but it certainly rhymes...
Kind Regards
Mark Jenkinson
