Letter to Chief Constable on Unauthorised Encampments

Letter to Chief Constable

I am disappointed in the Cumbria Police response to unauthorised traveller encampments across the Workington constituency.

I receive regular complaints from constituents about safety concerns, fly tipping, inability to enjoy public areas such as parks and green spaces and anti-social behaviour due to unauthorised traveller encampments. All of which is ‘damage’.

Residents should not have to wait until further or serious damage is caused for Cumbria Police to use their powers. Action must be taken immediately to remove or relocate these travellers.

Councillor Mike Johnson , the leader of Allerdale Borough Council, and I have sent a joint letter to Michelle Skeer - the Chief Constable of Cumbria Police.

You can download the letter below.
