Mark Jenkinson Member of Parliament for the Workington constituency recently met with residents of South Terrace, Great Broughton, to celebrate their victory and congratulate them on their perseverance.

With the commitment of Roger Monaghan, who lives on the terrace, they were able to secure funding from the Governments Gigabit Voucher Scheme to cover the costs for all 12 properties to upgrade to fibre broadband.

Mark made representations on behalf of the community to both Openreach and Ministers in the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, to ensure the project was carried out as quickly and cost-effectively as possible.

Mark Jenkinson MP said: “I am very pleased that the South Terrace community has been upgraded to the superfast broadband to which they are entitled, and are now receiving the service they deserve.

I know that many of my constituents have had no choice but to work from home during the pandemic, while children of all ages have had to adjust to remote learning. This unprecedented situation has highlighted the need for a good and reliable broadband connection.

As part of Our Plan for the Workington Constituency, I have been working with communities across the constituency and with the Government to improve local digital infrastructure.

I strongly urge other communities across the constituency to get in touch if they would like help and guidance on possible routes for improving their broadband.”

Mark Jenkinson has also welcomed the recent Government announcement regarding the roll out of Project Gigabit, a program that will see more than 14,000 premises in the Workington constituency upgraded to superfast fibre broadband.

The South Terrace community now enjoys speeds of up to 300Mbps, compared to 1.5Mbps before the upgrade.
