Improving Our Infrastructure

We need to improve our roads. Pothole funding is at the highest level ever, and we’ve reallocated funding to treble annual local highways and transport funding. We are investing in huge upgrades across our road and rail infrastructure, particularly the A595, A66 and the Cumbria Coast Line. We’re delivering Gigabit broadband to our towns and villages. We’re investing in the Port of Workington, and in local sports facilities.

More Businesses, Better Jobs

I am working with our businesses and industries to help create more, better-paying jobs for local people. I am working with Government and business to ensure that Cumbria remains at the heart of the UK’s nuclear supply chain, and to secure investment in every sector from farming to industry.

Cutting Crime

I want to keep our communities safe so that local people can get on with their day to day lives. We now have record numbers of police officers in Cumbria - more police than ever before. It is important that these officers are in the right areas to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.

Supporting our NHS

It is important that local people have access to good quality healthcare across our communities. I am working with Ministers to give people better access to emergency healthcare, to GPs and to dentists. We're opening new diagnostic centres, and a new Medical School in Carlisle.

Investing in Our Next Generation

Our young people deserve the best start in life, and to be able to fulfil their potential. That is why I have delivered on my 2019 pledges on school funding - both per-pupil funding and capital investment, and I’m working to secure more.

Mark Jenkinson MP's Net Zero Survey

Recently, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak readdressed the UK's commitment to meet net-zero by 2050 - setting out a more pragmatic path to reduced emissions, while maintaining our international and legislative commitments.

Protect Our Bus Services

The Government is providing considerable funding through the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP+) to councils across the UK, urging them to improve, subsidise and revive bus services.
